Kent State University congratulates its newest graduates. Fall 2011 Commencement Ceremonies took place Saturday, Dec. 17. The ceremonies for those receiving doctoral, master’s and baccalaureate degrees were held in the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center (MAC Center). Speakers for Kent State’s Fall 2011 Commencement Ceremonies were Ohio Board of Regents Chancellor Jim Petro and Kent State alumnus Dr. Barry Franklin, ’70.
WKSU has received 11 Ohio SPJ Awards from Ohio chapters of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) for the organization’s competition honoring work created in 2010. Awards were presented during a luncheon ceremony in Cleveland at Windows on the River. Since the addition of broadcast categories in 1998, WKSU has been recognized with more Ohio SPJ awards than any other radio news outlet – including being named Best News Operation five times. WKSU competes in the Ohio SPJ contest with other radio stations and journalists from media markets throughout Ohio and stations broadcasting to Ohio from surrounding states.
An action-packed weekend of wrestling at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center kicked off with No. 20 Kent State falling to No. 12 Missouri, 34-12, on Dec. 9. The Golden Flashes can turn the weekend around when they grapple against No. 6 Ohio State on Sunday, Dec. 11, at 1 p.m. The Sunday dual will be streamed live at www.mac-sports.com. Sunday’s dual also will stream live on www.Flowrestling.org and can be seen on tape delay on SportsTime Ohio next week.
Kent State students, mark your calendars for this weekend’s Kent State Study-A-Thon, which will be held on Sunday, Dec. 11, from 10 a.m. until 11:30 p.m. in the Kent Student Center Ballroom.
Multi-talented, multi-dimensional and multi-faceted are three of many words that describe Kent State University senior Ryan Glen Golphin. With singer, songwriter, entrepreneur and mobile app creator on his repertoire, there’s no telling what Golphin will accomplish post-graduation.
Kent State University has launched a social media portal, called a smash up, at http://social.kent.edu. The new social media portal houses the university’s social media channels.
