Kent State University congratulates its new graduates. The university held its fall 2013 Commencement ceremonies for the Kent Campus on Dec. 13 and Dec. 14 at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center (MAC Center). Kent State conferred 1,984 degrees, including 1,544 bachelor’s degrees, 390 master’s degrees, 47 doctoral degrees and three educational specialist degrees.

Kent State University hosted a one-day conference bringing together 300 community organizations and leaders to discuss ways to increase college enrollment and graduation of first-generation and academically motivated students in Northeast Ohio. The See You @ College conference took place on Thursday, Feb. 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Kent Student Center Ballroom. The conference was free and was open to high school and college educators and administrators, community leaders, educational organizations and more.
Kent State University recently earned the Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree Campus USA designation for the sixth consecutive year. Founded in 2008, Tree Campus USA acknowledges colleges and universities nationwide for campus forest management and commitment to conservation goals.
Kent State University held its 12th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration on Thursday, Jan. 23, at 2 p.m. in the Kent Student Center Ballroom. The celebratory event, which was free and open to the public, was themed “Honor the Dream.” It featured a variety of activities, including the presentation of the 2014 Diversity Trailblazer Award, a special “Honor the Dream” segment and student-led film debut.
David Herchick and John Richards, two Golden Eagle Battalion cadets from Kent State University’s Army ROTC program, were recently commissioned as second lieutenants during a ceremony that took place in the Governance Chambers at the Kent Student Center on Dec. 13, 2013. The commissioning ceremony marked a major step in the army career of both Herchick and Richards who will be moving on to serve in the National Guard.

Kent State University Libraries held its Stress-Free Zone event on Monday, Dec. 9, and Tuesday, Dec. 10, on the first floor of the University Library. The Stress-Free Zone offered the opportunity for a study break for students and an avenue to reduce stress for faculty and staff members as the fall semester comes to an end.
