The results from this year’s RecycleMania tournament are in, and Kent State University won bragging rights against the University of Akron in the friendly environmental competition. RecycleMania is a benchmarking tool for college and university recycling programs to promote waste reduction activities to their campus communities.

Ever-popular social media spaces add one more way, aside from campus activities, to make those connections. Kent State’s social media participation has grown significantly since its early starts. At the beginning of April, Kent State’s YouTube presence and videos had garnered approximately 139,380 YouTube views, more than 5,000 Flickr views, more than 2,429 Twitter followers and more than 30,000 Facebook fans.
On May 13, two Northeast Ohio pilots will fly two antique airplanes on a 1,670 nautical mile journey to Dayton-Wright Brothers Airport. A direct flight from Kent State University to Dayton is approximately 160 miles, but this particular trip will be taking a more scenic route.
Excellence in Mid-American Conference (MAC) golf has more than found its home at Kent State University and looks to be around for quite a while. This past weekend (May 4-7), the Kent State Golden Flashes’ men’s golf team won its fourth straight and 20th overall MAC Championship by a resounding 40 strokes. Led by individual medalist Corey Conners’ 54-hole score of 209 (-7; 70-67-72) the team shot a three round total of 855. Ranked 18th nationally, the conference championship was the fifth team title for the Golden Flashes this season, tying the team for the fourth most in the country this year.
Kent State University marked its 42nd annual May 4, 1970, commemoration on May 3 and 4. The commemoration events were an opportunity for students and the community to gather and reflect on the tragedy and adapt the lessons learned to current events.
Faculty, staff and students from Kent State University and the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine (OCPM) came together for a Meet-and-Greet Day on April 21 at Dix Stadium. The event celebrated the collaboration between both institutions. The event was free and open to Kent State and OCPM employees and their families.

Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow will headline a concert at Kent State University on Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. at Dix Stadium in Kent, Ohio. The “Centennial Campaign” concert to benefit the Campaign for Change Scholarship Fund serves as a celebration of the conclusion of Kent State’s Centennial Campaign, a $250-million fundraising effort timed around university’s 100th anniversary in 2010 and the largest campaign in Kent State’s history. To date, the university has exceeded its goal, raising more than $256 million for endowment, capital projects and current operating funds, with emphasis on student scholarships. The concert is presented by the Kent State University Foundation, a not-for-profit entity that is legally separate from the university.
