The Kent State University community proudly congratulates Dick Goddard, a 1960 Kent State graduate and WJW-Fox 8 chief meteorologist, for being on television for 50 years. To celebrate this milestone, members of the Kent State Alumni Association and university mascot Flash recently joined Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich and Goddard’s Fox 8 colleagues for a special dedication ceremony. The city of Cleveland renamed a portion of South Marginal Road “Dick Goddard Way,” which extends from East 55th Street to the front of the television station’s studios.
Nancy Schiappa, ’85, M.Ed. ’90, associate director of alumni relations at Kent State, spoke at the event to honor Goddard. She presented him with a Kent State blanket and umbrella.

Goddard also celebrated another 50-year milestone at Kent State’s Homecoming 2010. He attended the Golden Order luncheon, honoring the university’s Class of 1960. Goddard graduated from Kent State with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. After graduating, he had ambitions of becoming a cartoonist and passed up a job at Walt Disney Studios to take a career in television.
