A Century of Kent State
Women’s Athletics
As part of Kent State University’s Centennial Celebration, Kent State University Intercollegiate Athletics celebrated the rich history of its women’s sports and shared in the public recognition of pre-Title IX Golden Flash women’s athletes as letter winners during the 2010 Homecoming weekend.
“Celebrating a Century of Kent State Women’s Athletics” had multiple events slated during Homecoming weekend. Along with a panel of former women’s alumnae, gatherings for both women’s basketball and the 1990 NCAA World Series softball teams took place during the weekend.
On Saturday, Oct. 9, “Celebrating a Century of Kent State Women’s Athletics” hosted a “Lessons from Legends” panel at the Governance Chambers in the Kent Student Center. The panel featured six female former Kent State student-athletes and followed a question-and-answer style session.
After the “Lessons from Legends” panel, the “Celebrating a Century of Kent State Women’s Athletics” luncheon occurred. At the celebration luncheon, Kent State honored all women’s sports participants and coaches from the university’s storied history, and pre-Title IX women’s athletes were awarded a varsity letter.
