Kent State's
College of Nursing
Honored for
Innovations in
Education

Kent State University’s College of Nursing has been selected as a recipient of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Innovations in Professional Nursing Education Award. The awards program recognizes the outstanding work of AACN member schools to re-envision traditional models for nursing education and lead programmatic change.

The AACN Innovations awards, including a monetary prize of $1,000, are given annually in four institutional categories. Kent State has been selected to receive the 2012 award in the Public School without an Academic Health Center category.

“Given the complex work they do, nurses’ need to take care of themselves through self-care activities cannot be overemphasized,” said Laura Dzurec, dean of Kent State’s College of Nursing. “We hope to see every U.S. nursing program adopt the strategies that we are emphasizing through our Care for the Caregiver program, and we expect that’s exactly what might happen.”

The award will be presented on Oct. 29 at the AACN Fall Meeting in Washington, D.C.

“The selection process was very competitive, so you and your faculty are to be highly commended,” said AACN President Jane Kirschling in a congratulatory letter sent to Dzurec.

As a center for nursing research and education, Kent State’s College of Nursing is committed to advancing and applying nursing knowledge through excellence in undergraduate, graduate and continuing education programs; nursing education that addresses a changing society; promotion of health; and enhancement of the nursing profession.
